Because Brian Williams giving the finger would be too blatant
This is what CBC staff offices facing west have to look at all day, an ad for Canadian Idol by competitors CTV. Note the particularly heinous (supposed to be outrageous?) look on Zach Werner's mug. It's enough to make a CBC staffer did out the Chicken Cannon from Royal Canadian Air Farce, load it with Glass Tiger CD's and let the suckers fly.
Bonus: there's a city project digging on the street and it smells of sewage. It's like a big scratch n' sniff poster.

I watched this farce of a show last night. It's embarassing. It's almost as if American Producers said "There are a lot of Canadian bands making it big right now. We can't have them outshining our talent. How do we make the Canadian talent pool look shallow? "
"How about if we set up 'Canadian Idol', and have the judges pick nothing but the most middling of singers, so that 'Canada's Best' appear to be all crap?"
"Brilliant. Run with it!"
